“The Oath of Europe”: Wajdi Mouawad’s play that “fascinates” the Greek press

The event took place at the ancient site of Epidaurus, Greece. On August 1 and 2, Lebanese-Quebec playwright Wajdi Mouawad, director of the Théâtre national de la Colline in Paris, presented his new play there. This world premiere, starring Juliette Binoche, among others, excited the Greek press.
A world premiere in a setting steeped in history: the ancient theater of Epidaurus, built in the 4th century BC in the Peloponnese. The first weekend of August saw the performance of The Oath of Europe, the new play by Lebanese-Canadian playwright, director, and actor Wajdi Mouawad, one of the greats of contemporary theater.
This is a co-production between the Théâtre national de la Colline, which Wajdi Mouawad has directed in Paris since 2016 (and will leave in March 2026), and the Athens-Epidaurus Festival. It was created especially for the 70th anniversary of this major international event, and stars Juliette Binoche, among others.

“This show tells the story of a woman who, as a child, witnessed the massacre of a population by her own people and who is called upon, eighty years later, to recall this traumatic event and to testify as part of an investigation.”
